Faculty and Staff

Ten ���߲ݴ�ý University professors will be on sabbatical for all or part of the 2011-2012 academic year. Research, travel, and course development will fill much of their time.

The following is a brief description of what some of our faculty will be exploring next year:

���߲ݴ�ý University's 11th annual Visions & Ventures Symposium has been scheduled for September 14-15. This year's theme is "More Than A Game: Economics, Ethics & Politics of Sports."

Speakers will include:

A new Lincoln Public School will bear the name of former ���߲ݴ�ý University professor and Nebraska State Poet William Kloefkorn.

After serving 13 years at ���߲ݴ�ý University, Inger Bull, Director of International Education, has said goodbye.

Her last day was Friday, April 15. Bull has accepted a new job as Colorado College’s Director of International Programs.

���߲ݴ�ý University professor Kristie Pfabe is this year’s recipient of the Kenneth R. Holder Fellowship for Instructional Improvement.

A ���߲ݴ�ý University history professor has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship that will take her to Estonia next year.

Meghan Winchell, Associate Professor of History, will teach U.S. women’s and African American history at ���߲ݴ�ý’s sister school — the University of Tartu — during the 2011-2012 academic year.

Two ���߲ݴ�ý University seniors have been awarded Fulbright scholarships that will take them to Germany next year.

Jeff Seems of Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Brittney Hrabik of Murdock will both teach English in Germany.

An upcoming fundraiser will help assist an ���߲ݴ�ý staff accompanist and her family who are dealing with multiple health problems.

The 15th Annual East Campus Bull Fry Fundraiser will aid Mollie Manner and her daughters, Becca and Natalie.

Ever since she was 8-years-old, Lindsey Jones wanted to be a doctor.

That was until she participated in a summer biomedical research project and took a genetics class earlier this year that made her realize her passion resided elsewhere.

An award-winning filmmaker will speak at ���߲ݴ�ý University to discuss his following of survivors and perpetrators of the 1994 Rwandan genocide.

Patrick Mureithi, a native of Kenya and an artist-in-residence at Drury University, will deliver the lecture, “ICYIZERE: hope,” on Thursday, April 7 at 1 p.m. in Olin B Lecture Hall.

Students entering ���߲ݴ�ý University next fall will select from an updated slate of Liberal Arts Seminars — the first-semester courses that introduce college-level research, writing, and critical thinking through the study of an interdisciplinary topic.

 ���߲ݴ�ý University students who struggle with time management, organization, and other study skills can now take a class aimed at helping them achieve academic success.

The course offering became available for the first time this semester after Academic Achievement Specialist Kim Jacobson recognized the need.

In January, ���߲ݴ�ý University’s Historical Studies Program expanded to Omaha. That expansion also brought Iain Anderson to ���߲ݴ�ý as the program’s new associate director.

Elder Gallery’s current exhibition features the talents of ���߲ݴ�ý University’s art faculty.

The faculty art exhibition runs now through April 8 in Elder Gallery, located in the Rogers Center for Fine Arts, 50th Street and Huntington Ave.

Last month 37 Omaha Public School teachers enrolled in ���߲ݴ�ý University’s Master of Arts in Historical Studies Program.

This marks the first time the graduate program has been offered in Omaha, thanks to the U.S. Department of Education’s “Teaching American History Grant Program.”

John B. Greving of St. Paul, Minnesota, will join ���߲ݴ�ý University as Vice President for Advancement on March 1.

Dr. Rita McGuire has been named the new Director of Nursing at ���߲ݴ�ý University.

Eighteen ���߲ݴ�ý University students who are interested in refugee and immigration issues will spend part of their winter break in Arizona for a service project.

Members of the student organization Global Service Learning will travel to Tucson, Arizona, on January 4 where they will work with the Iskashitaa Refugee Harvesting Network.

During the 2009-2010 fiscal year ���߲ݴ�ý University received over $1,000,000 from corporations, foundations and organizations.
