Studio Facilities

Lucas Hall

The historic Rachel Ann Lucas Hall is home to the art department. Art students have access to ample spaces, materials,and tools to facilitate their work, including studio spaces for ceramics, sculpture, metalsmithing, dark room photography, printmaking, digital media, painting and drawing.

Ceramics studio

The ceramics studio features electric pottery wheels, extrusion ceramic printers and numerous kilns (electric, gas reduction, soda and raku). The sculpture and metalsmithing studio includes basic woodshop equipment (e.g., radial arm saw, table saw, band saw and drill presses) as well as stations for silver soldering, enameling and welding.

Darkroom

The darkroom supports processing 35mm and 120mm film, as well as alternative processes. Students have access to both digital and analog cameras during the semesters, as well as a studio setup including a seamless backdrop, tabletop setup, lightboxes, heat press, copy stand and more.

Digital media and print lab

In the digital media and print lab, students have access to the full Adobe Creative Suite, Canon photographic printers, two large format photographic printers, film scanners and Ender 3d PLA printers.

Painting and drawing studio

Art students receive 24-hour access to the large, naturally lit painting and drawing studio in Lucas Hall. The art department also collaborates with Nebraska Innovation Studio’s Maker’s Space to provide access to laser cutters, 3d printers, plasma cutters, fiber lasers, embroidery machines, a long arm quilter and more.

Galleries

In addition to spaces for making art, Lucas Hall also has three spaces for exhibiting work: the Archive, Kepler Gallery, and Elder Gallery. These spaces host experimental student projects, collaborative thematic exhibitions for courses and professional work by faculty, visiting artists and local artists.
